SAN DIEGO (AP) — Officials say a large research ship docked in San Diego Bay was evacuated due to an electrical fire.
The fire aboard the Dorado Discovery, a 321-foot ship equipped for deep sea mineral exploration, began broke out Sunday afternoon in the storage area and caused minor damage.
U-T San Diego reports (http://bit.ly/1fbgeQ5) the damage could take weeks to repair and the Coast Guard's investigation might delay the ship's scheduled Oct. 16 departure.
The British-flagged ship is operated by Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc., whose work has included many searches for treasures and artifacts.
