SAN DIEGO (AP) — A tour bus heading to a San Diego County casino has crashed, injuring eight people including the driver. The California Highway Patrol says the bus veered off a road and hit a fence at around 9:30 a.m. near Valley Center. Authorities say the bus was carrying 15 people from Seal Beach to Harrah's Rincon Hotel and Casino in Valley Center. Operator Silver State Coach Inc. makes several daily casino trips.
MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — The California Public Utilities Commission has approved $50 million in settlements with Southern California Edison and telecommunications company NextG, whose overloaded utility poles were blamed for starting the 2007 Malibu Canyon Fire. The 3,800-acre Malibu fire destroyed dozens of buildings.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A woman who surrendered to police after a shootout that killed a San Diego officer has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. U-T San Diego says 24-year-old Melissa Ortiz entered the plea today and will be sentenced to more than 25 years in prison for her role in the slaying. Officer Christopher Wilson was shot in the head in 2010 while authorities were checking on a probationer.
NORWALK, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California pastor who claimed to have "healing hands" has been charged with sexually assaulting female parishioners. Fifty-four-year-old Jorge Juan Castro of Norwalk remains in jail after being arrested last week for rape and other sex crimes. Authorities say since 2004, he has assaulted more than 20 women at church or their homes under the guise of faith healing.
