MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — A parolee and reputed gang member has been charged with a shooting that killed a 6-year-old girl and wounded her father at a family gathering in Southern California.
Riverside County prosecutors say 21-year-old Keandre (kee-AHN'-dray) Narkie Johnson of Moreno Valley was charged Wednesday with murder, attempted murder and other crimes. The charges carry special circumstances that make him eligible for death or life in prison if convicted.
Johnson has been jailed since his arrest Monday.
Authorities claim he opened fire at a Moreno Valley home on Sept. 7, killing 6-year-old Tiana Ricks and wounding her father.
Johnson was on parole following a burglary conviction but authorities say he failed to report to his parole officer the day before the killing.
Police haven't released a motive for the attack.
