SAN DIEGO (AP) — A San Diego policeman has been shot and wounded during a chase but he's expected to recover and the suspected gunman has been arrested. The shooting occurred about 3:30 p.m. yesterday after officers tried to take a man into custody on an arrest warrant. A car chase ended with the man running into a canyon. Police say it appears the officer fired first and the gunman shot back, hitting him several times. The officer was conscious and talking at a hospital.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (AP) — Nine people have been injured when a big-rig truck smashed through a center divider on Interstate 5 in Orange County and struck several vehicles. California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada says the incident occurred shortly before 12:15 p.m. yesterday in San Juan Capistrano. Quesada says the truck was traveling northbound when, for unknown reasons, it crashed into the median and into oncoming traffic.
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a worker sorting trash at a Southern California recycling center found a dead baby girl on a conveyor belt. The child's body, wrapped in a blanket, was discovered yesterday morning at the plant in Victorville. There's no immediate word on the child's age, and it's unclear whether the baby was killed or was stillborn. An autopsy is planned.
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An Orange County man has pleaded guilty to selling tens of thousands of counterfeit department store discount coupons on eBay. Prosecutors say Boi Quoc Vo of Anaheim entered a plea yesterday to a federal charge of trafficking in counterfeit documentation. He could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
