OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A judge has ordered a 60-day cooling off period in a labor dispute between a major San Francisco bay area bus system and its drivers. KGO-TV reports that an Alameda County Superior Court judge made the ruling this morning. Gov. Jerry Brown asked for a cooling-off period after an advisory board found that a strike by Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District bus drivers would be significantly disruptive in the region.
SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) — Sonoma County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a 13-year-old boy who was carrying a replica assault rifle after repeatedly telling him to drop it. Sheriff's officials and family members said deputies on patrol saw the boy walking with what appeared to be a rifle yesterday in Santa Rosa. Rodrigo Lopez identified the victim as his son, Andy, to a newspaper and said the boy was carrying a toy gun that belonged to a friend.
LODI, Calif. (AP) — A five-car crash in Lodi has left four people dead, including a child and a pregnant woman. At least 12 people were injured in the crash at an intersection early last evening. Witnesses reported seeing an SUV speeding, with the driver on a cellphone, just before the collision. Erin Andrews told KCRA-TV she was in traffic near the scene of the crash when she spotted the SUV swerving around cars at high speeds.
SALT POINT STATE PARK, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say an abalone diver who disappeared off the coast of Sonoma County is presumed dead. Sheriff's deputies tell The Santa Rosa Press Democrat that search crews believe the unidentified diver is still underwater, and are treating the operation as a recovery, not a rescue. Searches Monday and yesterday were fruitless and low fog grounded an aerial search.
