LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — The oil production technique known as fracking has been occurring on offshore platforms and man-made islands off some of Southern California's most populous coastal communities. Interviews and drilling records obtained by The Associated Press show fracking has occurred at least 200 times over the past two decades. The practice occurs with little state or federal oversight of the operations.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Investigators looking into the death of a woman found in a stairwell at San Francisco General Hospital say an orderly said he stepping over an unconscious woman a week before. The San Francisco Chronicle reported yesterday that it's still unclear why nobody located 57-year-old Lynne Spalding after the worker reported the sighting. Spalding disappeared from her room Sept. 21 and was found Oct. 8.
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado State Patrol is asking for the public's help in finding a 41-year-old Longmont man charged with vehicular homicide and DUI after the death of his 7-year-old son. The Denver Post reported yesterday a warrant has been issued for Manuel Nunez, also known as Manuel Nunez-Luna. Investigators believe he went into hiding in Colorado or California after the Aug. 23 crash in Boulder County.
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Another 'sea serpent' has attracted gawkers on a Southern California beach. U-T San Diego reports a 14-feet long, snakelike oarfish washed up Friday afternoon in Oceanside. According to the Catalina Island Marine Institute, oarfish can grow to more than 50 feet, making them the longest bony fish in the world.
