SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police say a suspect has been released in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Los Angeles Dodgers fan. A second person, 21-year-old Michael Montgomery of Lodi is being held without bail on suspicion of murder. Twenty-four-year-old Jonathan Denver was stabbed to death near the San Francisco Giants' ballpark late Wednesday.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge has dismissed all claims against Riverside County in a lawsuit by a camp ranger who argued he should have received the $1 million reward for apprehending rogue ex-Los Angeles police Officer Christopher Dorner. A three-judge panel spit the $1 million reward among four people — excluding camp ranger Rick Heltebrake, who was carjacked by Dorner in the final hours of the manhunt.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department says a San Diego mortgage company has agreed to pay $3 million to borrowers to settle allegations that it discriminated against minorities. The department alleged that Plaza Home Mortgage charged higher fees to thousands of African-American and Hispanic borrowers. In the settlement, Plaza denies all the allegations.
EUREKA, Calif. (AP) — A Clear Lake man has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder in a crossbow attack that left one dead and another injured. The Eureka Times-Standard reports that 21-year-old Phoenix King was arrested Sept. 9 after authorities found a 44-year-old James James dead in the Samoa Peninsula area from an arrow wound to the face.
