LAS VEGAS (AP) — Chris Paul scored career preseason high of 40 points and added 11 assists to lead to the Los Angeles Clippers to a 118-111 overtime win over the Denver Nuggets on last night. Paul's layup with 22 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime. He played 42 minutes, adding seven rebounds and going 12 of 13 at the free-throw line. Darren Collison had 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting for the Clippers, who outscored the Nuggets 14-7 in overtime.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Drew Doughty scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, and Justin Williams had two goals and an assist in the Los Angeles Kings' 5-2 victory over the Dallas Stars last night. Kyle Clifford added a third-period goal, and Matt Greene scored a deflected empty-net goal from deep in the Kings' end with 29 seconds to play. Anze Kopitar had three assists after going 3-1-0 on a four-game trip.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Joe Pavelski scored two power-play goals, helping to keep the San Jose Sharks unbeaten at home with a 6-3 victory over the Calgary Flames last night. Brent Burns, Scott Hannan, Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who have won their first five at home. Sean Monahan, Mikael Backlund and Jiri Hudler scored for the Flames.
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Sean Mannion threw for 481 yards and four touchdowns as Oregon State rolled to its sixth straight victory, beating California 49-17 last night. Brandin Cooks caught 13 passes for a career-high 232 yards with one touchdown and also scored on a 14-yard run. Mannion, already the nation's leading passer, found different receivers for each of his touchdown passes, pushing his nation-leading total to 29.
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Derek Carr threw for 412 yards and connected with Davante Adams on four touchdown passes on a record-setting homecoming night as No. 17 Fresno State beat UNLV 38-14 yesterday for its best start in 12 seasons. Carr and Adams set the tone against the Rebels with a 75-yard touchdown on the opening play of the game. Carr completed 33 of 46 passes.
