LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A 41-year-old Laguna Beach police officer has died after his motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck. Police say Officer Jon Coutchie was driving on Pacific Coast Highway late Saturday after responding to a call of a speeding motorist when he collided with the truck. Coutchie had been an officer for the past four years. His death is the department's first line-of-duty death since 1953.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — "Breaking Bad," AMC's soon-to-end tale of Walter White's descent into depravity, has won the Emmy Award for best drama. The honor yesterday was the first time "Breaking Bad" had won the award despite three previous nominations. Anna Gunn, who portrays star Bryan Cranson's wife, won best supporting actress.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — ABC's madcap "Modern Family" has won its fourth consecutive Emmy Award as best comedy series. The series stars Ed O'Neill as a family patriarch, with his young wife portrayed by Sofia Vergara. Although getting the honor again as best series, none of the series' stars won acting awards at yesterday's ceremony.
CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average price of regular gasoline in the U.S. has dropped 6 cents a gallon during the past two weeks. Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said yesterday that a gallon of regular now costs $3.52 on average. Of the cities surveyed in the Lower 48 states, San Francisco has the highest price at $4.01 a gallon. The average price in California is $3.97 a gallon, up 16 cents from two weeks ago.
