SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (AP) — Two people are dead after an early morning trailer fire at a mobile home park in the San Francisco Bay Area. Alameda County Fire officials say the blaze occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. today at the Estudillo Trailer Park in San Leandro. Crews found a woman's body at the rear of the trailer and then discovered the body of an elderly man when they searched through the wreckage. The victims have not been identified.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A federal judge has dismissed a case challenging an Alameda County law that requires the pharmaceutical industry to pay for the collection and disposal of unused prescription drugs. The judge ruled that the county ordinance does not discriminate against out-of-state companies, as the industry had argued. The law takes effect in November.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Hospital officials say a 19-year-old Mormon missionary from California is in very critical condition following a car crash in Idaho. Idaho State police say Taylor Ward of Vacaville and another missionary with The LDS Church were in a two-car crash early yesterday. Ward is on life support at a hospital in Pocatello, Idaho.
YREKA, Calif. (AP) — A far Northern California county where residents have complained they lack representation at the state capitol wants to separate from California. The Record Searchlight of Redding reports that the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 yesterday in favor of secession. Supporters want other rural counties in Northern California and Southern Oregon to join them in the creation of a new state.
