LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a 26-year-old man with murder in the death of a woman who fell from a car onto a crowded Los Angeles freeway and was hit by several other vehicles. Ricardo Jimenez was charged yesterday with one count of murder in the death of Maria Josefina Jimenez. The North Hollywood man had surrendered to authorities last weekend after learning they were searching for him. Arraignment is set for Sept. 23.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The Navy says a sailor has been found dead on a patrol boat in San Diego Harbor. Navy Region Southwest Public Affairs says no foul play is suspected in the death of the sailor found yesterday. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and San Diego Harbor police are investigating the cause of death. The name of the sailor was withheld.
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A Hawaii man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murdering the owner of an Orange County strip club in 1987. Senior Deputy District Attorney Michael Murray says 59-year-old Richard Curtis Morris Jr., of Pearl City, was sentenced yesterday for killing topless bar owner Jimmy Casino, whose real name was James Stockwell, with a shot to the back of the head in his Southern California home. Casino's girlfriend was bound and raped.
VENTURA, Calif. (AP) — A former leader of the Ventura County Chapter of the Hells Angels charged in the firebombing of a pair of tattoo parlors has been sentenced to just 10½ months in federal prison under a plea deal. An attorney for George Christie tells the Ventura County Star that the 66-year-old former motorcycle gang leader agreed to plead guilty to just one of the eight original counts that included extortion and use of explosives. He had faced up to 120 years in prison.
