2 women die in fire in Northern California

PLACERVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Fire officials say a house fire near the Northern California city of Placerville claimed the lives of two women.

The fire was reported around 5:45 a.m. Friday. El Dorado County fire officials say the single-story home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived at the scene.

They had been told that the homes' occupants could still be inside, so they conducted a search.

They have not been identified. The fire was put out in about 45 minutes. The cause is under investigation.
