2nd victim in Palm Springs killings child of 1st

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a man who shot and killed his girlfriend in their Palm Springs gated-community home before killing himself also fatally shot her 13-year-old daughter.

Riverside County coroner's officials said Monday that the second victim of 47-year-old Delmar Davis was Melissa Herrold.

Palm Springs Unified School District spokeswoman Joan Boiko tells the Desert Sun (http://mydesert.co/1ixiotC) Melissa was a stellar seventh-grade student and show-choir singer at Raymond Cree Middle School.

Police had not previously released the age or identity of the second victim.

Police say Davis, who had once worked at a Palm Desert gun store, shot and killed 43-year-old girlfriend Cynthia Herrold and the girl Thursday before turning the gun on himself.

Investigators searching the home found a large cache of firearms and what they would only call destructive devices.
