Body found in trunk of burning car in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police say the body of a man has been found in the trunk of a burning car in the Arleta area.

City News Service reports firefighters discovered the Audi A4 ablaze in an alley late Monday.

Lt. Paul Vernon says the passenger compartment of the sedan was engulfed in flames, but the fire did not spread to the trunk.

He says it appeared the victim was dead before being placed in the trunk, but the cause of death was "not readily apparent."

Vernon says the killer was likely trying to cover his tracks and the killing may be gang-related.
