SANTA MARIA, Calif. (AP) — A Central California man has been convicted of raping his two goddaughters and asking a jail inmate to kill them before they could testify at his trial.
Thirty-nine-year-old Felix Nicolas Jr. was sentenced Thursday to 206 years to life in prison. His attorney says he'll appeal.
Nicolas was convicted of rape, sodomy, oral copulation and other sex crimes and of soliciting murder.
Prosecutors say the Santa Maria man sexually abused his goddaughters for four years beginning in 1999, when they were 8 and 9 years old.
They reported the abuse years later. Nicolas was awaiting trial in 2011 when he asked a fellow Santa Barbara County jail inmate to kill the victims. The inmate told authorities that Nicolas recommended feeding the bodies to sharks.
