Ex-NFL player avoids jail in plea deal

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — An ex-NFL wide receiver agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge in order to avoid jail time and receive no fine after he was arrested twice in one day.

The Press Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/1kkIkv4 ) that Titus Young's attorney entered the guilty plea for him in Riverside Superior Court Friday. The 24-year-old did not appear.

Moreno Valley police arrested Young twice on May 5. First on suspicion of driving under the influence and then for allegedly climbing into a police impound yard to retrieve his car.

In exchange for agreeing to plead guilty, prosecutors dismissed the two misdemeanor counts of trespassing filed against Young and reduced the case to an infraction for disturbing the peace.

Young was given no jail time, no fine, but was charged a $35 court fee.
