Police: NY woman extradited from CA in $100K fraud

MACHIAS, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Police say a business clerk extradited from California on a grand larceny warrant has been arrested for embezzling more than $100,000 from a trash container rental company.

Troopers say Saturday Christine Garland of upstate Arcade, N.Y., cut herself checks from the business over a 14 month period. She's been charged with second-degree forgery and falsifying business records.

Garland was in custody and unavailable for comment. It wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney.

Investigators say she was extradited after being apprehended Friday outside of San Diego. They say Garland was responsible for paying vendors but the company's owners realized last month she'd been writing check to herself since November.

Arcade is about 50 miles south of Buffalo.
