SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — An annual 4/20 pot-smoking celebration is attracting thousands of marijuana smokers to San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
Hippie Hill on the park's eastern edge has become the go-to spot for the unsanctioned festival.
City officials said last year's smoke-out created traffic jams and left 10,000 pounds of trash. They vowed to crack down Sunday on illegal parking, camping, drug sales, open alcoholic containers and several other violations.
The warning didn't seem to deter dozens of people who pitched up tents and canopies, or the vendors who sold pot-laced treats.
Officer Danielle Newman said at least eight people face possible felony charges, but she did not elaborate on what they were arrested for. She said she didn't immediately know how many citations were issued.
